How to Remove Old Decals From a Bedroom Door

Decals consist of a layer of paper and an adhesive that bonds the decal to another object. Over time, the adhesive on old decals will begin to deteriorate; part of your old decal may rolling up and away from the bedroom door while the other part of the decal is still glued down.   • Hair dryer
  • Rag or towel
  • White vinegar
  • Latex gloves
  • Putty knife

Instructions

      Heat the decal with a hair dryer set on "high" for three minutes to break the adhesive bond.

      Wet a rag or towel with 2 tsp. of white vinegar. Wear latex gloves to protect your hands.

      Wet the corners of the decal for one minute with the vinegar-soaked rag or towel. Lift each corner gently and place the rag behind it.

      Lift one end of the decal and slowly scrape the decal lose with a putty knife. If you encounter any resistance, apply the vinegar-soaked rag or towel to the decal for one minute then scrape slowly again with the putty knife. Continue scraping until the decal is removed.

      Wipe the area of the door where the decal was with the vinegar-soaked rag or towel to remove any remaining adhesive residue.

      Dry the door with a paper towel.
