How to Install D-Link Wireless Modems
As more people across the country replace their desktop computers with laptops, wireless networking is becoming the de facto standard in an increasing number of homes. D-Link is a popular maker of wireless equipment, famous for the ability of its products to stream high definition video to computers while providing Internet access simultaneously. Install a new D-Link wireless modem in your computer by allowing the driver CD to walk you through the process.

Insert the D-Link installation CD into your computer. If you purchased your wireless modem used and do not have the CD, visit the D-Link support website using the link in the "Resources" section of this article to download the drivers for your product. The setup software will launch automatically.

Click "Next" to continue.

Click "Browse" and choose a folder for the D-Link software to be installed in, or keep the default folder and click "Next."

Click "Next" after choosing the folder on your Start menu that the D-Link software should be placed in.

Insert the D-Link wireless modem into your computer when prompted by the software. In certain versions of Windows, you may see a pop-up window labeled "New Hardware Wizard." Hit "Cancel" to close the New Hardware Wizard and return to the D-Link installation. Click "Next." The software will finish installing, and the Windows wireless connection manager will appear in your system tray.

Right click on the wireless icon on the lower right corner of the window and click "View available wireless networks" in Windows XP or "Connect to a network" in Windows Vista or 7 to find and connect to your wireless router.

Tips & Warnings
The D-Link Xtreme N Dual Band USB Wireless Adapter was used as an example of a D-Link wireless modem in the creation of this article. Other D-Link wireless adapters are installed in a similar fashion, but the menu options given by the software may differ slightly.
