How to Use a Graphic Link on a Web Page

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Text-editing program
  1. Step 1

    Open a text editing program, such as Notepad or EditPad. Click File and select Open.

  2. Step 2

    Place the cursor where graphic link will appear.

  3. Step 3

    Type the following, replacing "webpage.com" with the link:

    Add the following, replacing "image.jpg" with the name of the image to be used:

    Close the tag by typing:

  6. Step 6

    Save the page and open a web browser.

  7. Step 7

    Select Open from the web browser's File menu. Locate the page and double-click or select Open to view the page.

  8. Step 8

    Connect to the Internet and click on the link to verify it works. If not, check the URL.

Tips & Warnings
  • Graphics used for links are treated just like regular graphics. They can be resized using the height and width commands, or in a graphics editing program.
  • Add a border to a graphic link by adding the following command: , changing the border size as desired.
  • Many sites offer free clipart to use on your personal website. Type "free web art" into a search engine.
  • Obtain permission before using any unlicensed or copyrighted clipart.
  • Do not use images from another web page without permission from the owner of the site, even if it is a link back to their site.
