How to Dress for Your Body Shape

Every woman has things she loves about her body shape and things she hates. The best way to dress for your shape is to flaunt what you've got and hide the rest. Evaluate your best and worst features. Then you can look your best by adopting tricks used by the fashion industry for decades to draw the eye to your assets.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find pants that have the right cut for your shape. The right shape will draw attention to your best area and hide the flaws. Flared leg and relaxed cut are good for people with a pear shape, large thighs or a big booty because they balance the lower leg with the top of the leg, thigh and butt. Skinny-cut pants (pants that have a tapered ankle) are only for women that are very thin on bottom since they draw attention to anything below the waist. This is good if you want to draw attention away from something you don't like above the waist.

  2. Step 2

Wear bright colors on body parts you like. For example, if you think you have a fantastic butt and a poochy belly, wear bright colored pants or skirts and a darker shade on top. The eye will go to the brighter color.

  3. Step 3

Dress your assets with form fitting clothing and your negative with items that skim the area. For example, if you have a tiny waist, but have big thighs, choose a shirt that tapers or belts at the waist and an A-line skirt that skims away from your thighs.

  4. Step 4

Show skin where you want the focus, as well. If you love your toned arms, then wear short sleeves or sleeveless tops. If you think you legs are shapely, then wear shorts or shorter skirts.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you find a piece of clothing that you love, but it doesn't work with your body shape, then take it to a tailor. Tailors can take in items so it fits perfectly with your body type.
  • Avoid clothing that is too large. This will make your look bigger than you are.
