Depending on where you are working at will depend on what type of retirement you will have. So to take matters into your own hands, here is how to save a great retirement.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Invest in a 401k.
There are a couple of different types of 401k's to choose from. A traditional 401k and a Roth 401k are the two that are most talked about. One of the main differences in the two is if you want your money to be taxed as your putting it in or when you take it out. This all depends on what you think the tax rate will be when you finally decide to retire.

  2. Step 2

    Start young.
The earlier that you invest your money into a 401k the more time it has to draw compound interest. Many people can have millions by the time they decide to retire, even though they had only investing a small amount of money. But over time a little bit of money can turn into a large amount. So the earlier, the better. Another reason this is important is there is a limit to how much you can invest each year, so try to put in the maximum for maximum profits.

  3. Step 3

    Invest the maximum.
If you can financially afford it, invest the maximum that you are allowed to put into a 401k. Depending on your financial situation, if you are married, and numerous other things will affect the amount of money that you can put into a 401k. So before investing in either a Roth or a Traditional 401k, be sure to find out what the amount is that you are legally allowed to invest.
