1
Rake the sandy yard area clear of rocks, weeds and other organic debris using a flexible metal rake.
-
2
Overseed the lawn with drought resistant grass seed using a seed disperser or by hand. Ensure the grass seed is evenly distributed throughout the entire area.
-
-
3
Lightly sprinkle lawn lime over grass seeds using a small gardening shovel. Lawn lime increases the soil's pH level, facilitating the long-term growth of a healthy lawn. This is especially relevant in sandy environments, which are often more acidic.
-
4
Add 1/4 inch layer of fertilizer over lawn lime and grass seed using a small shovel. Lightly rake the fertilizer to distribute evenly over the surface. Fertilizer such as peat moss or compost adds nutrients and moisture retention to sandy soil.
-
5
Water the lawn every two to three days until seedlings sprout above the surface.
-
6
Trim adjacent branches and bushes to increase sunlight to the sandy lawn area. Drought resistant grass requires large amounts of direct sunlight.
