How to Increase Volume for Ventrilo

Ventrilo, commonly known as Vent, is an online communications program. It provides real-time voice communications on private or public servers. Vent has many configurable settings for users to customize the sound input and output levels, as well as changeable event sounds and even speech-to-text service. General volume can be adjusted, as can the output volume of individual players, which is useful when a player's volume is consistently lower than the average output volume of the other player in the channel.

Things You'll Need

  • Ventrilo software
  • External speakers

Adjusting the Volume

  • Launch the Ventrilo program by clicking on the desktop icon or the programs list.

  • Check the "Use Direct Sound" box, then click the "SFX" button that appears at the upper right.

  • Highlight the volume option in the available list and click "Add." "Volume" will appear in the current column.

  • Double-click the new "Volume" option and the volume pane will appear. Move the slider to the right until it is set to your liking, then click "OK" on the volume pane. Click "OK" on the special effects pane.

  • Click the "Voice" tab on the main Ventrilo screen. Locate the "System Sounds" control panel in the lower left corner. Click the "Playback (output)" button. This will open the speaker pane.

  • Move the speaker control slider up to its highest setting, then close the speaker pane.

  • Select a Ventrilo server to join, then press "Connect." Names of players who are present may be double-clicked to open a special effects pane to control that individual player's volume to your speakers. The volume may be adjusted up or down by moving the slider to the right or left, respectively.

  • Click "OK" after any adjustment is made to enable the changes.
