1
Determine if the ink that spilled was powdered or liquid, knowing this makes a big difference in how you will clean it . It is normally very easy to distinguish the dried powder from the liquid form.
-
2
Use the vacuum hose with no attachment on the end if it is a powdered ink stain. Turn the vacuum on full speed, and get up as much of the powder as possible with the vacuum. Do not roll over the stain with the vacuum as the rollers on the bottom can actually grind the powder further into the carpet.

Spray on the spot remover, and allow it to remain on the spot several minutes. Begin blotting the area, but do not rub. Blot the area several times until the stain is lifted. Rinse with water and a clean sponge, place a towel over the area and press down firmly to dry the area.

Approach a liquid ink stain by using your paper towels and blotting up as much excess as possible, working from the outside edge of the stain inward. Once all excess ink is removed, pour isopropyl alcohol on a white cotton cloth or rag and blot the stain several times. Repeat until the stain is gone.

5
Take a clean sponge and clean water, and blot water on the area to remove the isopropyl alcohol. Do not soak the carpet. Dry the area with a towel. Allow it to dry overnight, and vacuum the area normally the next day.
