Step 1
Use videos for procedures. Understanding how a medical procedure is done can be difficult if an instructor only verbally explains the different steps of the procedure. Seeing it actually performed can increase their understanding and their ability to do it right in lab or clinicals. Some textbooks have a website companion to the book that provide videos for nursing procedures, which instructors can get to using an access code in their instructor textbook or manual. A number of other websites provide nursing procedure videos online which can be accessed by anyone. However, users must search for these sites since no central listing exists.

Step 2
Access additional resources. Practical nurses can't learn and remember everything an instructor covers in class. This is why additional reading and studying is required outside of class. Instructors can assign students to access resources on the Internet to provide additional information about tasks and procedures. Having it discussed in a different way may provide a clearer picture for students of how it is completed.

Step 3
Create class discussions. Some students are shy and afraid to ask questions in class. Using the Internet to start a class discussion allows these students to ask a question without feeling like all eyes in the classroom are on them. It encourages students to ask questions that may be important but feel uncomfortable bringing up in front of their peers. This is often true for first-year nursing students discussing sexual health.

Step 4
Provide online study review. Preparing for a test in practical nursing can be stressful for many students. Instructors can use the Internet to provide students with study guides and practice tests which they can use to prepare for the real thing. Making these available through a classroom website a week or two before the test gives the student adequate time to prepare and do well.

Step 5
Teach students to stay up-to-date. A number of different scholarly journals and publications are available online. These journals and publications often provide the latest news and research regarding the nursing and health care field. Students that regularly check and read these publications online are more apt to be aware of changes to their career field before their peers. Instructors in a practical nursing classroom can use the Internet to teach students how to access these resources and stay current in the field.
