Once a cricket gets in your house it will begin to chirp. This noise can quickly become annoying, especially as you are trying to sleep. What's worse is that crickets can actually munch on things in your house. They like paper, wood, vegetables, clothes and even rubber. If you see a cricket, you should get rid of it as soon as possible so that it doesn't have a chance to invite its friends into your home.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Get a pet that's a natural predator of the cricket. Three pets that will do the trick are cats, frogs and lizards. You will have to let the lizard or the frog loose in order for it to catch the cricket. Make sure the pet has a clear view of the cricket when you release it.

  2. Step 2

Attach the hose to your vacuum and suck the cricket into your vacuum. The cricket will not be dead so you can take the vacuum cleaner bag outdoors and release the cricket. This is a great way to get rid of a cricket if you don't want to kill it.

  3. Step 3

Fill a glass jar halfway full with molasses. Set the jar near where you see or hear the cricket. The cricket will jump in and get stuck in the molasses. You can let it go or wait for it to drown. This homemade trap works just as well as any store-bought traps.

  4. Step 4

Smack the cricket with a fly swatter. You will need to quietly sneak up to the cricket so that you are within arm's reach. Then bring the fly swatter down hard on the cricket. This will kill the cricket.

  5. Step 5

Spray a pesticide around the house. Only use this method if you do not have children or pets to worry about. The pesticide can be harmful if they were to ingest it.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are quick enough, you can catch the cricket with your hands and then let it go outside.
  • If you do not plug entry holes around your house, you will keep seeing and hearing crickets.
