How to Meet Local Men
It is disappointing to meet a wonderful man and then discover that he lives several hundred miles away from you. When it comes to relationships, finding a man who lives locally is definitely better. You can meet a local man by carefully selecting the places that you frequent. Be open to learning and doing new things.

Put on your cutest gardening clothes and head to your local home improvement store. Tourists do not generally go to these stores, so any man you meet is certain to be local. Feel free to ask a guy who catches your eye for help. Chances are, he'll be happy to demonstrate his knowledge of rotary tiller blades.

Join a local co-ed softball team. Even if you're so uncoordinated that you can't tie your shoes, it shouldn't be a problem. The men on the team will most likely be glad to show you how to swing the bat correctly and get to first base. Playing other sports works well for meeting local men as well. The key is to play the sport and not merely watch it. Players get much more attention than spectators.

Learn how to play an instrument, or hone your singing skills and join a band. Most bands are comprised of local guys, and a woman who can play an instrument adds welcome diversity to the band. Not only will you meet the guys in the band, but you'll probably garner a few fans as well.

Volunteer for an organization that gives you the opportunity to interact with fellow volunteers. Try becoming an after-school tutor, or planning events for a local charity. You'll meet local men who are civic-minded and altruistic. Find places to volunteer in your city by searching the site listed in the resource section below.

Hang out at a local park. Don't listen to your iPod or put your nose in a book. Simply sit and people watch. This makes you very approachable, and you might just strike up a conversation with the guy whose Frisbee you just returned. Hanging out with your large, friendly dog is even better.

Take a class that you're interested in, which men would also find interesting. Make sure that the class provides opportunities for interaction. Consider a sculpture, horticulture or firearms course. If you want to make sure that you are the only woman in the class, consider taking a course on obtaining a ham radio license. If you like adventurous men, sign up for a skydiving or rock-climbing course.

Remember that local men are everywhere. You simply need to notice them. Dating expert David Wygant points out in his illuminating article "Understanding the Scooby Doo of Men," that "most women walk into a place with their head in the clouds --- on their BlackBerry or thinking about what's on their 'to do' list --- and never notice men noticing them." (Ref. 1.) Eliminate your distractions, and you'll find that local men are both plentiful and easy to meet.
