How to Display U.S. & State Flags on a Pole
The United States flag is a poignant symbol of American pride. The flag must be displayed in front of schools and some public buildings, but individuals can also hoist the flag to show their patriotism. When displaying the United States flag along with a state flag, there are some important points to keep in mind. The United States Flag Code specifies several provisions for the display of other flags along with the American flag.

Display the United States flag above the state flag if they are to be hung on the same pole. If the flags are displayed on adjacent poles, the United States flag should be to the state flag's right. If there are three or more flags on display, the United States flag should be in the center. Even on separate flag poles, no other flag should fly higher than the United States flag.

Display both flags at half mast when the United States flag is at half mast. In this position, the United States flag should still be higher on the flagpole than adjacent flags and must be above any other flags on the same flagpole.
