How to Oil a Cutting Board

You probably use your cutting board almost every time you prepare a meal. Cutting meat or vegetables on the board is going to leave cuts and gashes. Dish soap and water can leave your cutting board a dried out, damaged piece of wood. In order to help bring back some original color and moisture, it's a good idea to occasionally oil the board. Doing so can prolong the life of your everyday cutting board. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Cutting Board
  • Mild Dish Soap
  • Water
  • Mineral Oil
  • Rag

Instructions

      Clean the cutting board with a mild dish soap and water. Make sure all food scraps have been removed from the cutting board.

      Dry the board. You can let the board air dry or dry it with a towel.

      Pour wood mineral oil onto a rag and rub the oil on the cutting board. Make sure to thoroughly cover the entire cutting board with the oil.

      Wait for the wood to soak up the oil. This is going to take a few minutes.

      Reapply the mineral wood oil another four to five times, allowing each application to soak into the wood.
