How to Make an Ear Wash Using Vinegar & Water

If you have ever had an ear infection, you know how painful they can be. Most doctors treat ear infections with antibiotics. Non-treatment can lead to permanent hearing loss. Your body can develop a resistance to these antibiotics over time so that they are no longer effective. One treatment that you can use at home to eliminate ear infections is a water and vinegar ear wash. This ear wash also can be used to prevent future ear infections.

Things You'll Need

  • Ear syringe
  • Bowl
  • 1/2 cup of distilled vinegar
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • Towel

Mix the vinegar with warm water in a bowl. The water should be lukewarm. Make sure it is not too hot, and not too cold.

Fill the ear syringe with the vinegar water solution. At the same time get ready with your towel. You want to hold the towel under the ear you are washing. The towel will catch the water as it comes back out.

Squirt the solution in the ear, being careful not to block the canal with the tip of the ear syringe.

Continue squirting the solution into your ear until the liquid coming out of your ear is clear.

Repeat on the opposite ear. Do this two to three times per day if you have an ear infection. If you are just cleaning your ears, you can repeat this once per week.

Tips & Warnings

  • Instead of catching the water with a towel, you can use a small bowl or basin.
  • Anytime you wash your ears out you may experience dizziness. This is normal. Just sit down for a few minutes until it passes.
