How to Decorate Drapery
Draperies are lined curtains that offer homeowners the ability to block winter winds or summer heat from seeping through their windows. According to Home Decorating Designs.com, draperies add color and design to your interior space and serve as a last barrier between your window and a view of outdoors. You can spice up the look of your draperies in a number of ways, such as embellishing or stenciling the fabric. It is simple to custom decorate draperies to fit your personal style and it will not break your budget in the process. Does this Spark an idea?

Embellishments Add Flair
-
1
Measure the length and the width of your drapes using the fabric measuring tape.
-
2
Cut two lengths of the decorative trim equivalent to the length of the drapes.
-
-
3
Glue the decorative trim to the inside length of the drapes, carefully checking to make sure the trim is evenly glued along the edge. Use a paper towel to lightly dab extra glue that seeps out. Allow the glued trim to dry fully before hanging the drapes. You may also glue decorative trim along the bottom of the drapes if this suits your style by using the width measurement you obtained earlier.
Stencils Create Character
-
4
Lay one drape out flat on a clean work surface. Slide a clean piece of cardboard underneath your drape where you will begin to stencil.
-
5
Layer the stencil you have chosen on top of the drape. Secure the stencil in place with masking tape.
-
6
Pour a small amount of fabric paint into a painting tray. Dab the stenciling brush lightly in the fabric paint, dabbing out excess paint into the tray before applying it to the open area of the stencil. Once you have filled in the stencil, you may choose to repeat the pattern on another part of the drape. If you are finished, you may move on to the other drape.
-
7
Allow the drape to dry fully before hanging on a drapery rod to complete the look.

Tips & Warnings
According to the Home Fashions University, fully working drapes should not be made to puddle on the floor, or else the fabric may become dirty, damaged and could possibly damage the hardware that the drapes hang from. Chose your embellishments or trims with this in mind, as once you have glued them onto your drapes, you will not be able to take them off.
Use caution when working with scissors, paint and other crafting supplies. Wear an apron and gloves when necessary to prevent damage to your skin, clothing and work surfaces.
