How to Draw Key Blades
Key blades are fantasy weapons that many characters use in different anime stories and games. These blades are often used like swords except they have a large key shape instead of a normal blade. Many people enjoy drawing these exotic weapons with their anime characters to give them a unique and completely customizable weapon. Yet the exotic design and highly detailed final products will often discourage fairly capable artists. Drawing a key blade can be broken down into a few very simple steps.
Instructions

-
1
Use your straight edge to draw a single long line positioned where you want the key blade to be.
-
2
Draw another line intersecting the first where you want the top of the hilt to be. Now draw a basic outline of the hilt. If you want the hilt to have a hand protector, bring two curved lines down over the handle portion of the blade. You can embellish later; for now, just draw the skeleton.

3
Decide if you want your key blade to be thick or thin and draw the thickness accordingly. Start at the top of your hilt and work your way up. Use two perpendicular lines from the hilt with the guideline that was drawn in Step 1 between them traveling upwards. Most key blades will end thicker than they started with an intricate key design. However, don't worry about drawing the key portion just yet. Draw a rectangle or square on the end of your blade and size it depending on how big you want the key portion of your blade to be.
-
4
Add details to the key blade's hilt. Start this by making the remaining line drawn in Step 1 a cylinder so that your character will have something to grab a hold of, then draw the rest of the hilt around the handle.
-
5
Draw any details you want on the blade portion of your key blade. Also draw the key shape on the end of your blade.
-
6
Use your ink pen to outline all of the details of your key blade. Don't outline the guidelines that you drew in the first couple of steps. Also, don't ink anything that you used to size or position other pieces.
-
7
Allow the ink to dry and then erase all the un-inked lines.

Tips & Warnings
If you're having trouble drawing key blades, try drawing normal swords. Normal swords have the same three parts of a key blade: handle, hilt and blade. Once you master a normal sword, you can add to it and draw a key blade.
