How to Remove Thinset Between Tiles
In the course of laying tile you may have used too much thinset in some spots and caused an excessive amount to be pushed between the tiles. Having too much thinset in between tiles can impact the adhesion of grout in the joint and affect the long term durability of the installation. When confronted with this problem, some people attempt to remove the thinset with a hammer and chisel and in the process damage the tiles. There is no easy way to remove thinset from between tiles but the safest way is with a grout saw. Does this Spark an idea?

Put on the utility gloves and eye protection. You'll be putting plenty of pressure on the thinset to remove it and getting hit in the eyes with debris or busting a knuckle is a strong possibility.

Insert the grout saw into the grout line near the thinset.

Place the grout saw over the thinset.

Rub the grout saw briskly back and forth over the thinset.

When the thinset has been worn away brush it out of the grout line with a broom or compressed air.

Tips & Warnings
Grout saws are available at most hardware stores and tile supply shops and are traditionally used to remove grout from in between tiles but work just as well to remove thinset. If it does not already come with a blade be sure to get a carbide blade for it and perhaps a backup if you have a large amount of thinset to remove.
Be careful not to rub the grout saw on the tile. It can easily scratch the surface.
