How to Remove a Cat Urine Smell From the Laundry

Cats, like dogs, can be pretty territorial. As part of this behavior, cats are inclined to mark their territory with their urine. Sometimes in the process of marking their territory, they will urinate in unexpected places, including the laundry. Fortunately, removing cat urinal smell from linens is not a difficult problem to solve.

Things You'll Need

• Enzymatic cleaner
• Warm water
• Bucket
• Washing machine
• Detergent
• White vinegar

Instructions

1. Spray the enzymatic cleaner directly onto the urine stain. The enzymes in the cleaner will work to break down the chemicals in the cat urine.

2. Fill a bucket with warm water. Add about 1 cup of white vinegar.

3. Soak the clothes in the bucket for a few hours or overnight. The vinegar will help further neutralize the smell.

4. Put the article or articles of clothing in the washing machine and add detergent. The detergent should neutralize and mask any remaining odors.

Tips & Warnings

• If the laundry is bleach safe, considering adding bleach along with the detergent to the wash.

• When handling chemicals, always be sure to take precautions, such as wearing gloves and avoiding contact with your eyes.
