You can have the perfect stand, perfect gun or bow and perfect buck lined up, but if your clothes have some household scent on them, you may come home empty handed. Hunters consider scent control one of most important aspects of hunting. Keeping your hunting clothes scent-free is as important as finding the perfect hunting spot. There are a few tips to keep in mind to keep your hunting clothes scent-free this hunting season.

Rinse you washing machine out before you put your hunting clothes in the machine. To do this, just run the washer through a rinse cycle.

Wash your hunting clothes with a scent-free detergent to avoid a "fresh laundry" smell.

Hang your hunting clothes out to dry, if possible. If you choose to dry your hunting clothes in the dryer, do not use fabric softener sheets--hang them out to naturally air out after you put them in the dryer.

Put your clean hunting clothes into a scent-free plastic garbage bag immediately after they are washed and dried. A 22-gallon Ziplock bag will work best, but you can use a regular garbage bag.

Spray a scent eliminating or cover up spray into the bag. You can get these sprays at any outdoors store.

Tie or seal the bag tightly to eliminate the possibility of any household scents getting into the bag.

Keep your hunting clothes in the bag until you reach your hunting location. This will help eliminate the transfer of any vehicle odors to your hunting clothes.

Use unscented soap when you shower to avoid carrying any scent on your body.
Wash your towels with unscented detergent, as well, so you don't transfer scent to your body when you dry off.
Try to avoid pumping gas in your hunting clothes. Game can smell even small amounts of gasoline from very far away.
