Instructions

  1. Treatment

    • 1

Use a decongestant and antihistamine to reduce nasal congestion.

    • 2

Use a homemade ear drop solution. Add rubbing alcohol to a mixture of half alcohol and half vinegar. The solution will dry up extra fluid and help to maintain dry ears.

    • 3

See a doctor if fluid still exists. Your doctor will most likely recommend antibiotics for up to 14 days.

    • 4

Be patient. Your doctor may keep an eye on the situation for months. Fluid can disappear on its own after time.

    • 5

Prepare that you may need surgery if the fluid does not clear up on its own after a few months. During surgery, tubes are placed in the eardrum to drain the fluid. The tubes are later removed or fall out on their own.

Tips & Warnings

  • Antibiotics may cause vomiting or diarrhea. In some cases, allergic reactions may occur.
