Old houses are charming, unique, and likely full of interesting history tidbits. Follow these simple steps if you're interested in the learning the history of your home.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Research the old newspapers at the local library to see if there are any interesting news stories involving your home history.

  2. Step 2

Talk to your realtor when first buying about the history of a house. It's likely that if they don't have tidbits of information about the house, some of their fellow realtors will.

  3. Step 3

Find the history of a house by talking to the surrounding neighbors. They may have information about the house history, the neighborhood, and the surrounding town that will be beneficial towards your information hunt.

  4. Step 4

Conduct a free house history search on the internet. Many different websites will give you a free house history report; you can search by address or year built.

  5. Step 5

Lookup public records for a bit of house history. Public records give you an idea of who lived in the house and when. You can also see how much a person paid to purchase the home through these records.
