How to Mix a Margarita by the Pitcher

How to Mix a Margarita by the Pitcher thumbnail
One of the most popular cocktails in North America is easy to make in a pitcher to serve a crowd.

The main ingredient in a pitcher of margaritas is tequila and the better the tequila you add, the better your margaritas will taste. Choose a 100 percent un-aged silver agave tequila. The same goes for the other ingredients that go into the pitcher of this refreshing summer cocktail. Buy quality triple sec to give it that nice orange sweetness and be sure to use freshly squeezed lime juice. Plenty of ice cubes are the final must as this drink is best served frosty cold. Does this Spark an idea?

  • 3 cups tequila
  • 1 cup triple sec

Chill the tequila, triple sec and the empty pitcher for several hours in the refrigerator.

    • 2

Squeeze about 12 limes to make 2 cups of lime juice and reserve an additional 4 to 6 tbsp. for use in rimming glasses, then chill for several hours in the refrigerator.

    • 3

Mix 3 cups of chilled tequila, one cup of triple sec, 1/3 cup sugar and 2 cups of chilled, fresh-squeezed lime juice into the pitcher just before serving.

    • 4

Rim the glasses by first dipping in a saucer of lime juice and then in a saucer of coarse salt.

    • 5

Pour the margaritas from the pitcher into the prepared cocktail glasses, add ice and garnish with a slice of lime.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can buy a pre-made margarita salt rimmer but regular or course salt in a saucer works equally well.

  • After you have tasted a glass from a pitcher of "real" margaritas made from good quality tequila and fresh lime juice, artificially flavored, pre-made margarita mixes will never stack up.
