First, restrict your holiday list to immediate family, a few friends and possible a few co-workers. Once you start buying gifts for everyone, you can deplete your money very quickly. Make a list beforehand and stick to it.

Second, restrict your holiday card list also. Stamps are quite expensive especially when you plan to mail a great deal of cards. It would cut back on expenses to only give cards to those who you plan to buy for. You can attach the card to the gift at time you give it.

Finally even where the children are oncerned, make sure you make it clear that they can’t have everything they want and provisions must be made. Try to reiterate that holidays are about family and friends not just gifts.
