Microsoft Word is the most widely used word processor. You can use MS Word to create brochures, reports, letters, and even books. Pictures within documents add visual appeal and help to further explain what the author is trying to convey. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Here's how to add one in Microsoft Word.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • PC or Mac computer with Microsoft Word installed
  1. Step 1

From the top menu, select Insert > Picture > From File. The Choose a Picture window displays.

  2. Step 2

Select the file you want to add and click Insert. The picture appears in your document.

  3. Step 3

Align and format the picture. For example, resize it, center it, add effects, and recolor it.

  4. Step 4

To add MS Word pre-installed clip art to your document, select Insert > Picture > Clip Art, select the graphic from the Clip Gallery, then click Insert.

  5. Step 5

To add a horizontal line or autoshapes to your document, select Insert > Picture > Horizontal Line... or Insert > Picture > AutoShapes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Large or high-resolution pictures will greatly increase file size. For smaller, more manageable files, resize pictures and make sure the resolution is set between 72 and 150 dpi.
  • This procedure was created using Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac.
