How to Become a Good Student thumbnail
Studying in a quiet place is one way to become a better student.

Being a student is an experience that we all encounter. However, what we all do not encounter is being a good student while in school. Even with certain rules and regulations in place, how to be a good student may still be somewhat unclear to some. This is because we are told how to be good students behaviorally but not always told how to be good students academically. In order to be a good student academically, follow the steps listed below.

Instructions

    • 1

Get all the school supplies that you need for each class. Arrange your folders by class. Place your classwork, homework and assignments in the folder for that particular class. Use color-coded dividers for each class if you are using one binder for all classes. Keep all papers neat and uncrumpled. Use the pockets of the folders or dividers to organize handouts that do not have holes along the edge.

    • 2

Set your goals for your classes. Determine what you wish to gain from the class and what you will do in order to attain that goal. Seek resources that will help you attain the goals you set for your classes. Get contact information from at least three students in your class in case you are absent, miss an assignment or wish to work with someone on that particular subject.

    • 3

Set aside a time to study for each particular class. Use a calendar to write down these study times. Write in homework due dates and test dates as well. Reference this calendar on a daily basis. Stick to the timelines that you have written down. Highlight important dates or assignments in your calendar. Take your calendar to all your classes.

    • 4

Choose a quiet area to study. Be consistent in studying at the designated time and location. Prioritize what you will study first. Choose homework to do based on importance and deadlines. Do the hardest work during the time of day that you work best. Work in a group or alone, depending on which you prefer for each subject. Write legibly, and write any comments on your homework that you want your teacher to read.

    • 5

Prepare for an exam at least one week prior to the exam. Study all notes, homework assignments and previously graded tests. Study and memorize more information than the teacher suggests. Ask questions in class about concepts that may be unclear to you prior to the test date. Bring extra pencils and erasers for test taking on the day of the test.
