How to Overcome Fear in Class
Most students have some level of fear when it comes to school. Not everyone may show it, but fear of speaking in front of others, fear of answering questions incorrectly and fear of tests are all quite common. Getting over your fears is not an easy process. It takes time and patience. However, if you begin incrementally, you are more likely to notice long-term improvements.

1
Determine what part of class scares you the most. Are you afraid to speak in class or are you afraid of tests? Think about what classroom activities get you most nervous and focus on those.
-
2
Approach your fear one moment at a time. For instance, if speaking in class scares you, aim to speak once in a given week. When you meet your initial goal, set a new goal. Perhaps next week you will aim to speak twice. As you meet your goals, you will slowly begin to overcome your fears.

Talk to your parents, teachers and friends about your fears. Sometimes it helps to confront and share what scares you the most. Fear in class is often the result of a lack of confidence in your own abilities. Friends and family will help you to build your confidence and face your fears.

4
Imagine the worst case scenario. Let's say you are afraid of tests. The worst that can happen is that you'll fail. However, you can prevent failure through proper preparation. Focus on the aspects of your fear that you can control.

Consider professional help. Visit a therapist if you cannot overcome your fears on your own. Therapists will rely on behavioral therapy and other approaches to help you get to the source of your fears.
