Snakes can be important to have around because they eat mice and bugs, keeping you from having a field of mice invading your home. If, however, you have an abundance of snakes in your yard and they are destroying your plants and vegetable gardens, you will want to get rid of them. You can deter snakes from your yard using mothballs. They will not kill the snakes, but will repel them from your property.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Respirator mask
  • Plastic gloves
  • 10 cups of mothballs
  • 10 cups of cat litter
  • Large container with a lid
  1. Step 1

Put on a pair of plastic gloves and a respirator mask before opening your container of mothballs to protect you from any fumes that may come up out of the container.

  2. Step 2

Pour the mothballs and the cat litter into a large container, mixing the two ingredients together. Place the lid on tight and set it in your basement for 48 hours.

  3. Step 3

Sprinkle the combination anywhere you want to repel snakes, such as in your garden, under your porches, in your basement or even around the perimeter of your property.

  4. Step 4

Repeat monthly to keep the snakes at bay.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also place the mothball mixture in coffee cans and poke holes in the top of the cans. Set the cans out to deter the snakes.
  • Set the mothball mixture inside of a stocking and tie a knot in the end. Set the stocking out in the yard, or basement to deter the snakes.
  • Do not use mothballs around children and pets; they are toxic.
  • Mothball fumes can cause nausea and diarrhea.
