Paper-clip chandeliers add a touch of whimsy to your casual decor. You can make your own dangling clip chandelier to decorate a single-bulb light fixture. Select any size or color paper clips that you like, or mix and match. Plan to use at least 1,200 paper clips for a small chandelier with 12 clips on each strand. Adjust the size of your chandelier based on the size craft ring that you select and on the length of each strand.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 8-inch craft ring
  • Pencil
  • Stud finder
  • 2 screw hooks or anchors
  • 1,200 large paper clips
  • Light fixture
  1. Step 1

Place the craft ring against the ceiling around the light fixture and mark the circle lightly with a pencil. Remove the craft ring.

  2. Step 2

Locate at least one ceiling joist around the circle. Mark the spot. Insert the two screw hooks into the ceiling joists on opposite sides of the circle. If there is no joist available, insert anchor hooks.

  3. Step 3

Connect 12 paper clips together to form a strand. To connect the paper clips, slide the rounded end of one clip over the end of a second clip until the two are connected. Continue to make a chain until your strand is 12 paper clips long.

  4. Step 4

Hook a paper clip at one end of your strand onto an 8-inch metal craft ring. To hook the paper clip, open the end clip slightly and slide it over the ring. Press the clip closed.

  5. Step 5

Repeat steps 3 and 4 about 100 times.

  6. Step 6

Hang the paper-clip chandelier on the hooks in the ceiling.

Tips & Warnings
  • Hang strands of paper clips on a wreath frame so you can have two layers on your chandelier.
  • Spray the paper-clip chandelier and the craft ring with metal paint for added design.
