Chicken wire is one of the most affordable types of fencing available to consumers. It serves a variety of purposes, such as caging in small animals like chickens (hence the name "chicken wire") and enclosing gardening areas. One of the most crucial parts of building with chicken wire is attaching the chicken wire to the posts. It is essential to do this step correctly to ensure that your pen or fence is sturdy.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Staple the first end of the chicken wire to the post using a staple gun, beginning at the bottom of the post and working your way up. Stapling from the bottom helps ensure that the wire stays flush against the ground.

  2. Step 2

Pull the chicken wire out to the next post, and wrap it around the outside of the post, keeping it pulled taut.

  3. Step 3

Hold the chicken wire tight against the post, and staple from the bottom up in the same manner as before. Repeat the process for each post you wish to attach chicken wire to.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keeping chicken wire held tight is easier with two people: one to hold the wire tight and another to staple the wire to the post.
  • Beware of attaching the chicken wire to the posts too loosely; loose wire could lessen the effectiveness of your pen or fence.
