If you own a large racquetball court and don't play racquetball, you may have been thinking of other uses for the large area. For those that practice yoga, your unused court may be the perfect candidate for renovation. An outdoor studio is particularly ideal to encompass the natural calm yoga inspires. Transforming the area into a yoga studio requires an eye for athletic interior design and aesthetic innovation. However, by following a few simple steps you can have your own studio in no time.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Premium urethane adhesive
  • Plywood
  • Bamboo or wood pillars
  • Wood stain
  • Painter's brush
  • Glossy wood varnish
  1. Step 1

Install plywood flooring over the concrete. Use a premium urethane adhesive to attach the plywood to the entire concrete surface. Make kerf (see "Methods of Bending Wood") cuts on the back of the plywood with a circular saw to allow better flexibility. If desired, you may contract this work out to a local flooring company.

  2. Step 2

Install vertical wood pillars (or long thick bamboo) upon the installed plywood.

  3. Step 3

Contract a roofing company to install a roof over the pillared area.

  4. Step 4

Stain the wood with your choice of color. Apply this with a painter's brush. Add 1-3 coats.

  5. Step 5

Paint an outdoor gloss varnish to wood, such as Ronseal. Follow your chosen brand's specific directions.

  6. Step 6

Purchase a large yoga mat holder. A large shelf or tall rectangular box will work.

  7. Step 7

Purchase and hang yoga symbols from the ceiling. You may even wish to use acrylics to paint yoga poses upon circular pieces of wood. For a decorative touch, add drill a hole to the top and hang with rope.

  8. Step 8

Use acrylics to paint the "om" symbol in various colors upon your pillars.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to wear a protective mask when using wood stain product.
