Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Start small. Visit your local health food store and purchase almond milk. Look for aseptically packaged boxes of plain almond milk, as well as vanilla and chocolate flavors.

  2. Step 2

Try flavored almond milks for drinking. Expect a sweet nutty flavor, but don't expect the taste of cow's milk. Serve chocolate almond milk to kids to avoid reluctance over a new food.

  3. Step 3

Use vanilla almond milk on cereal or in coffee. Try both sweetened and unsweetened versions of vanilla almond milk to determine which you prefer.

  4. Step 4

Opt for plain, unsweetened almond milk for cooking. Substitute almond milk for milk when baking or cooking savory dishes to add creaminess to your meals.

  5. Step 5

Experiment with making your own almond milk. Soak almonds you have toasted in the oven or raw almonds in water, using four-parts water to one-part almonds. Allow them to soak overnight, then add 2 tbsp. of your favorite sweetener. Blend well in the blender. Pour the almond milk through a cheesecloth-lined strainer, squeezing as much of the moisture out of the remaining almond pulp as possible. Use this as you would commercially available almond milk.
