How to Add an Avatar

An avatar is an image or icon of yourself that you can add to your online profiles on sites like Facebook and Gmail for others to easily recognize you. To add an avatar, you need to have a digital copy of your photo or image stored on your computer hard disk or on some other medium. You can add an avatar to almost any website where you have a profile.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Avatar

    Add an Avatar on Facebook

  1. Step 1

    Log in in to your Facebook account.

  2. Step 2

    Click on the "Profile" tab.

  3. Step 3

    Place your mouse over the upper right corner of your current profile picture or temporary image, and then click on the pencil icon that appears.

  4. Step 4

    Click on "Upload a Picture."

  5. Step 5

    In the "Upload Your Profile Picture" dialog box that opens, click on the "Choose File" button and then select the photo or image that you want to add to you Facebook profile.

  6. Add an Avatar on Gmail

  7. Step 1

    Log in to your Gmail account.

  8. Step 2

    Click on the "Settings" link on the upper-right side of your browser window.

  9. Step 3

    Under settings options, click on the "General" tab.

  10. Step 4

    Under "My Picture," click on the "Change picture" link.

  11. Step 5

    In the "Upload a picture of yourself" dialog that opens, click on the "Choose File" button, and then select the photo or image that you want to add to you Gmail profile.
