Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a pair of pants and a jacket that buttons down the center in your child's size. The traditional colors of prince charming are off white and dark red; however you can use whatever color scheme you prefer. Choose a pair of pants that are one color (i.e., dark red) and a jacket of a different color (i.e. ,off-white) with long sleeves that buttons all the way to the top. Good options for a jacket are raincoats or blazers.

    • 2

Purchase the gold ribbon, fringe tassels, and gold cord from a fabric store.

    • 3

Hide the collar of the jacket by folding it underneath the collar edge. Sew it in place to the inside of the jacket with a needle and thread.

    • 4

Cut two strips of the gold ribbon the length of the side pant seam.

    • 5

Sew the ribbon on top of each seam. This creates stripes down the sides of the pants.

    • 6

Cut two pieces of gold ribbon for the jacket cuffs. Measure the ribbon by wrapping it around the circumference of the jackets' wrist.

    • 7

Sew each ribbon around the jacket cuffs one inch above the length of the jacket.

    • 8

Measure and cut two pieces of cardboard two inches wide by four inches long.

    • 9

Wrap each piece of cardboard in gold ribbon until no element of the cardboard can be seen. These will serve as the epaulettes on each shoulder.

    • 10

Adhere the tassels. Take one strand of tassels and staple it to the bottom side of the cardboard so that the tassels fall from three sides of the cardboard (the two longer ones and one shorter one). Repeat for the other shoulder.

    • 11

Staple each cardboard piece to the shoulder seam of the jacket where the seam meets the arm. Let the tassels hang evenly.

    • 12

Attach the corded rope across the jacket front. Adhere one end of the corded rope by pulling it through the second button hole from the top and sewing it to the inside of the jacket.

    • 13

Swing the cord up to the right side of the right shoulder epaulette. Allow the cord to create a swooping arc up to the shoulder. Attach it to the jacket (just next to the epaulette) using a needle and gold thread.

    • 14

Loop the cord once more around the back of the shoulder, under the arm, and back up to the top of the shoulder. Again, allow the cord to create a soft, hanging loop under the arm. Cut off any remaining cord and attach the end to the jacket with needle and thread.

    • 15

Dress your child, buttoning the jacket all the way up and adding black shoes. Wrap the belt around his waist on the outside of the jacket and your Prince Charming is ready for the ball.

Tips & Warnings

  • For additional elements, pin a medal to the front left side of the jacket, add a dress shirt underneath in a gold or yellow color, or have him wear white gloves.
