Instructions

  1. Creating Pen Strokes in Photoshop 7

    • 1

Launch Adobe Photoshop and open a new or existing document from the "File" menu.

    • 2

Choose the "Pen Tool" from the tools panel left of the canvass, or type the letter "p."

    • 3

Place your first anchor point by clicking on the spot on the page. If using an existing image, click on the edge of an object in the image.

    • 4

Click again to create a second, connecting anchor point. This will create a straight-lined path between the first and second anchor point.

    • 5

Add a third anchor point in between the first two to create a curved line. Add the anchor point at a spot on the path corresponding with the furthest away portion of the curve of the object if you're tracing over an existing image.

    • 6

Ctrl + Click on the middle anchor point and drag it in or out to match your desired curve. You will now have a curved path between the first and second anchor points you placed.

    • 7

Adjust the handles stretching on either side of the middle anchor point to fit your path exactly how you need it.

    • 8

Continue this process for your entire path. To add a stroke to the path, right-click (Ctrl + Click for Mac) on a completed path and select "Stroke Path."

Tips & Warnings

  • It takes some getting used to working with the curves and control handles of the Pen Tool, but it's well worth it to practice and master it.
