In the earlier stages of the iPhone's life, the firmware running the device restricted the volume level immensely. This limitation upset some users because, after all, they did purchase a $300 to $400 on the device and certainly did not expect to be unable to adjust the volume however they wished. Apple responded to the complaints and released an updated firmware to that allows iPhone users to boost the volume on their devices without any preset limits.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • iPhone
  • USB cable for iPhone
  • iTunes software
  1. Step 1

Turn on both the iPhone and the computer. If you do not already have the iTunes software installed on the computer, do so now and then launch it.

  2. Step 2

Connect the iPhone to the computer using its USB cable. iTunes should automatically recognize the device.

  3. Step 3

Allow iTunes to search for any firmware updates for the iPhone. If one is available, the software will notify you before downloading it. To approve the download and installation of the update, click the "OK" button on the pop-up message screen.

  4. Step 4

Eject the iPhone from iTunes once the firmware update installation is complete, and then disconnect the device from the computer.

  5. Step 5

Test the iPhone's earpiece volume by connecting the earphones you typically use with the device and making a call. Adjust the volume as necessary, for the volume after the firmware upgrade is substantially increased.

Tips & Warnings
