Fresh homemade lemonade can be so refreshing.
Fresh homemade lemonade can be so refreshing.

Nothing is quite as refreshing and delicious as an icy cold glass of homemade lemonade made with real, natural, fresh lemon juice. The recipe is simple, quick, and very rewarding. Read on to learn how to make homestyle lemonade (or limeade).

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 lemon (or 2 limes)
  • 1 gallon of water
  • pitcher, stirring spoon
  • 3/4 cup sugar (or equivalent sweetener)
  • ice, glasses
  • garnish (optional)
  • cutting board, knife
  1. Step 1

Add 3/4 cup of sugar (or equivalent sweetener) into a gallon-sized empty pitcher (preferably glass to show color). Use more or less sugar according to your preferences.

  2. Step 2

Add a little less than a gallon of cold water to the pitcher. Using a wooden or plastic stirring spoon, gently mix the sugar with the water.

  3. Step 3

Using a cutting board and a knife, carefully slice a lemon (or lime) in half. With one hand cupped underneath to catch seeds, squeeze a lemon half (or two sliced halves of a lime) over the other hand, allowing the juice to release through your fingers into the pitcher. You could also use a juicer rather than your hands if you prefer.

  4. Step 4

Wash and dry your hands. Stir the juice into the sugared water. Set your lemonade pitcher in the refrigerator to chill.

  5. Step 5

Fill four tall glasses with ice cubes. You may want to chill your glasses ahead of time. Take your pitcher out of the refrigerator and pour lemonade into the glasses.

  6. Step 6

Garnish your lemonade or limeade with leftover lemon and lime wedges or slices. You could also garnish them with mint leaves instead.

  7. Step 7

Serve these ice cold beverages to guests or family. They will appreciate the effort. Enjoy!
