Install PowerBook G4 Memory

By following a few simple steps to install PowerBook G4 memory to your laptop, you will be adding new life to your aging computer. New RAM memory will allow you to store more data on your computer and it will run a whole lot faster as well. When you use up the entire available RAM on your Mac, it will start to store files on the hard disk drive which means that your computer will run very slow and make those annoying hard drive grinding noises. Here’s how to install PowerBook G4 RAM to breathe new life into your laptop.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Turn off your notebook and unplug it from the wall.

  2. Step 2

Gently turn your computer over on a stable surface to look at the underside.

  3. Step 3

Locate the battery release latch on the backside of your computer. Use a coin to turn the battery latch ¼ of a turn clockwise. Remove the battery.

  4. Step 4

Take out the screws that hold the memory slot. This will be a rectangular plate with 4 screws and you will need a Phillips screwdriver.

  5. Step 5

    Remove the memory slot cover.

  6. Step 6

To install PowerBook G4 memory, turn the gold pins to face downward at a 30 degree angle. Line the pins with the grooves on the memory slot and insert the RAM.

  7. Step 7

Gently push the RAM into the slot until the clips snap.

  8. Step 8

Replace the cover of the memory slot and insert the 4 screws back into place.

  9. Step 9

Replace the battery into its slot. Use the coin and turn the latch ¼ a turn counterclockwise.

  10. Step 10

Plug your computer back in and turn on to finish installing PowerBook G4.
