You can use iron on transfers to decorate everything from jeans to tote bags. All it takes is a hot iron and a piece of clothing or cloth to decorate. It's even more fun if you can make your own custom iron on transfers. Here's how.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

To make an iron on transfer, visit your local office supply store and ask for iron-on transfer paper. Most stores like Staples and Office Depot carry it. If you can't find it at an office supply store, try your local craft store or purchase it online. Be sure that it's designed to be used with an ink jet printer.

  2. Step 2

Draw an image or use a copyright free photo for your iron on transfer. You can even use old photos from your photo album. Once you've chosen an image to make your iron on transfer, scan it into your computer and print it out on the iron-on transfer paper. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for using the paper.

  3. Step 3

Once the image is printed on the iron on transfer paper, allow the ink to dry completely to avoid smearing. Use sharp scissors to cut out the image.

  4. Step 4

Arrange the freshly printed iron on transfer on the piece of cloth or garment. Move it around until you're satisfied with the way it looks; then turn it face down on the spot where you want the transfer to be.

  5. Step 5

Heat up your iron to its highest setting. Start ironing along the edges of the iron on transfer using firm pressure (make sure it's face down) and gradually move towards the middle bearing down as hard as you can with the iron to transfer the image. Be sure that the transfer doesn't move during the process.

  6. Step 6

Remove the backing paper and admire your new piece of art! Now that you know how to make an iron on transfer, you can create custom wearables any time.
