Thought I would show you a picture of me so you would know I keep myself in shape! (I'm lying. It's not me) But it could be YOU. Even women get ripped, lose weight, and enter those contests all oiled up - posing in different positions. I watched one contest a while back. This lovely women had so many muscles, if she took a swing at me and missed, just the air from the swing would have knocked me on my butt. But, I digress.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

No offense...but this guy looks pretty good!

So, the big question is...what really is the best time to exercise and workout to get the biggest benefits? Well, I did some research and found that some experts say one thing - others say another. It's pretty confusing. One expert thought most people do cardio whenever they get the chance. Middle of the day, before bed...others, first thing in the morning. I believe it really doesn't matter what time you do your exercise and/or cardio workouts...just do it. Anytime, should produce results.

  2. Step 2

As I dug deeper into the subject, I went to get my haircut and who should I see waiting: (other than me) JACK LALANNE. He lives in Morro Bay, CA a couple miles north of my home. Nice guy. Looks great at 92 (picture) and is eager to answer questions. "Like many others, he thinks the first thing in the morning on an empty stomach is best. Before you eat anything, is by far the most effective time," he says.

  3. Step 3
    Easy does it!

Actually, I've always believed whether you walk, jog, swim, bike - whatever, doing it the first thing in the morning is best, too. Common sense says since you haven't eaten anything after sleeping 7 or 8 hours, starting in the morning with cardio, your body suddenly discovers there are NO carbs to burn, so it attacks your stored body fat, which is the stuff you want to remove in the first place. Glad I found that out.

Tips & Warnings
  • I've been walking/jogging over 50 years, and lately prefer late afternoons to walk. I can relate to others who feel mornings present fewer distractions and interruptions, and, in the summer, it's cooler. Of course, if you live in a junkyard like Los Angeles, you might want to try walking inside, if you get my drift.
