Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • court order
  1. Step 1

With there state of the economy and people losing their jobs and lack of finding a new job many people simply can not afford to insure their ex-spouse. COBRA insurance is very expensive. In order to be allowed to stop proving for and ex-spouse after a divorce you must file papers with the Court. Locate your local Probate and Family Court and File a Complaint for Modification seeking that you no longer need to provide coverage for your ex.

  2. Step 2

When you go to Court bring proof of your income, unemployment, living expenses and cost of the insurance. The Judge will need this to determine is you no longer need to provide for your ex-spouse. Also do a little research on what type of insurance your ex-spouse may get or possibly suggest you both split the expense.

  3. Step 3

Times are tough and the Courts are aware of this. At the same time your ex spouse is still in need of insurance coverage.
