If you are over the age of 50 and plan to pursue your degree in nursing, you may be surprised to find you are eligible to receive scholarship money. Scholarships are preferred to loans, since you won’t need to pay the monies back. Check with your school’s financial aid advisor about scholarship opportunities for older women.

Shapiro Returning Adult Nursing Scholarship

This scholarship program was created for students who are looking to pursue a second bachelor’s degree. Women who are returning to school and are over the age of 24 can apply to receive the monetary award. Winners of the scholarship are chosen based on financial need.

Jeanette Rankin Women's Scholarship Fund

If you are over the age of 35, you can apply to receive money through this scholarship program. The money can be used to pursue a degree in any type of college program, including the nursing field. You must come from a low-income household and be a U.S. citizen to receive the award.

Long Term Care Nurses Scholarship

If you already are working as a nurse, you may be eligible for this program. The Long Term Care Nurses Scholarship awards individuals who have worked in a long-term care facility for at least two years and currently are enrolled in a nursing program. Three $500 scholarships are given annually to recipients of the fund to help pay for college tuition.

AARP Women’s Scholarship Program

You must be at least 40 years old to apply for this scholarship for women. The scholarship was created to give women a chance to learn new skills later in life to provide financial security when they retire. Women who receive the scholarship to pursue a nursing degree must be from a low-income household. Award amounts range from $500 to $5,000.
