Things You'll Need:
- Knife
- Cutting board
- Plastic bags or containers
-
Step 1
Trim your cauliflower and broccoli to fit into containers. Cutting the vegetables into florets can make preparation easier when you are preparing meals.
-
Step 2
Place each vegetable into its own sealed plastic bag or container. According to the University of Minnesota Extension, cauliflower has a longer shelf-life than broccoli. Unless you will be using the two vegetables together within a few days of preparing them for storage, store them separately to avoid accelerated spoilage of your cauliflower.
-
Step 3
Store fresh broccoli and cauliflower that has been properly wrapped in a cold refrigerator. The Arizona Department of Health Services recommends keeping your refrigerator between 35 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit for optimum freshness of the food.
-
Step 4
Eat your fresh vegetables within a week to reap the benefits of the freshest taste. Depending on the look and health of the buds and heads when you bought them, broccoli can last from three days to two weeks when properly stored. Cauliflower can stay fresh for one to three weeks. If either vegetable begins to look brown, discard it.
