Step 1
Make an appointment to talk to your doctor about stopping your Tegretol XR treatment. Provide your doctor with information regarding any negative reactions you have experienced as a result of taking Tegretol.
-
Step 2
Continue taking your Tegretol XR until your doctor approves the stoppage of treatment. If you are taking Tegretol for seizure prevention, be aware that suddenly stopping treatment may cause a recurrence of seizures.
-
Step 3
Follow up with your physician and make yourself available for physical examination if necessary. If you are taking Tegretol XR as a result of diabetes, your doctor may order a blood test before allowing you to stop taking your medication.
-
Step 4
If you have been experiencing negative reactions or side effects (such as hives, swelling, difficulty breathing or headache/nausea) ask your doctor about alternative medications for your condition.
-
Step 5
Make sure that your doctor knows your full medical history before taking additional medications for your condition. Be sure to provide him with a list of all medications you are currently taking, including over-the-counter medicines, so that he can make an informed judgment whether to discontinue Tegretol XR, or provide an alternative form of treatment.
