Step 1
Remove the old glazing. To remove the old glazing from your exterior windows, you will need to use a heat gun and a glazing knife. Apply the heat gun to the existing glazing to loosen it. Slowly peel the glazing around the window, being careful not to chip the glass or cut the wood.

Step 2
Replace the points. As you are removing the glazing from your exterior windows, you will find metal points around the window. They are pushed into the wood and hold the window in place. If they are damaged during the glazing removal, replace them. You can purchase them at your local hardware store.

Step 3
Prime the window. Lightly sand the window frame where the old glazing was. Clean the window with Wil-Bond, which is a liquid deglosser. Use a quick drying oil or water-based primer sealer to prime the window where the old glazing was.

Step 4
Apply the glaze to the window. Apply a 1/4-inch bead of glaze around the window. Take your putty knife at a 45 degree angle and smooth the glaze with the corner of the putty knife. Allow the glaze to dry completely before painting or staining.
