Read the oven cleaner's instruction label. Because products vary, the cleaning procedure can differ.

Review the oven's instruction manual. Some may require removing the heating elements before cleaning.

Remove the racks from the oven. Typically oven cleaner should not be used on the racks. Racks can be cleaned in the sink, using liquid dish soap and hot water.

Clean off excess food and spills. Before applying the oven cleaner, remove crumbs or spills that can be wiped from the oven.

Spray the interior of the oven with the oven cleaner. The can may need to be shaken before spraying. Avoid spraying on any heating elements.
