If you own membership to a campground (whether it be annual or lifetime), you have the opportunity to donate that membership to a charity or individual. In most cases this doesn't involve any complicated legal proceedings, but rather a few simple conversations and the signing over of the membership. However, to increase the impact of the donation, you might consider donating the membership in conjunction with another charity event. This way you can potentially increase the exposure of another charity.

Things You'll Need:

  • Membership paperwork
  • Contact information, campground
  1. Step 1

Make sure your campground membership is still valid. Contact the management office at the campground and inquire about your membership: ask when it expires, how much the annual dues are and the process of transferring ownership.

  2. Step 2

Decide to whom you will donate the membership. In some cases, memberships are donated at local blood drives in communities. At such events, the campground membership is offered as a raffle to those who donate blood.

  3. Step 3

Discuss the prospect of transferring ownership with the management office at the campground. Schedule an appointment with either the head ranger or executive manager. Draw up the transfer paperwork. Decide, if you have a renewable annual membership, whether you'll continue to pay annual membership fees for the ultimate recipient of the membership.

  4. Step 4

Contact a charitable organization if you plan to raffle off the membership. Try to donate the membership during the largest charitable drive of the year for the organization--this will draw the most people to the charity, thereby increasing its exposure, reach and impact.

  5. Step 5

Meet with the recipient (or winner of the raffle) to discuss transfer of ownership. Have the recipient read over the documents drawn up with the management office of the campground.

  6. Step 6

Sign over the membership. Make sure the receiving party understands any costs associated with their new membership, such as dues, upkeep costs or parking fees.
