If your ice maker needs repair or you need to unhook it for another reason, this can be accomplished simply by taking off the cover and removing a few key pieces blocking your access to the wiring that connects the ice maker with your refrigerator. This process should take less than an hour to complete. When you're ready to hook the ice maker back up, all you have to do is reconnect. You need a screwdriver for this project and you're ready to go.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Check the refrigerator's instruction manual to find out how to remove the front of the ice maker. Unplug the refrigerator and remove the front of the ice maker as directed. It may pull off, or it may have screws you'll need to take out first.

  2. Step 2

Turn off the water supply and unhook the water intake tube located behind the refrigerator. It should connect to the back of the appliance and supply water to the ice maker.

  3. Step 3

Remove the ice bin itself along with the shelves and the vertical partition of the ice maker. Unscrew the screws you uncover after taking these pieces out. This will give you access to the wiring behind the ice maker, according to BobVila.com.

  4. Step 4

Unhook the wires. The ice maker is now no longer connected to the refrigerator and will not function properly. Remove or repair the ice maker as needed.
