Remove all materials off of your seats, including children's car seats, umbrellas or anything else that is on your seats. Also remove the floor mats.

Remove any garbage on your seats that will not easily fit into a vacuum cleaner. Be sure to remove all coins too.

Apply a cleaning solution to your car seats. The cleaning solution should be designed specifically for your type of car seats, and you should follow the manufacturer's instructions for use. Use only leather cleaner for leather seats and upholstery cleaner for upholstered seats.

Use a stiff brush to work in the cleaning solution unless the manufacturer advises against it.

Wipe the seats clean with a dry towel.

Vacuum the seats with a powerful vacuum that has a seat cover attachment. A home canister style vacuum should be sufficient, but if you are using a small utility hand-held vacuum, then be sure to empty the bag frequently. A car seat attachment is a head for the vacuum tube that is usually four to six inches wide and has an opening of around one-half to three-quarters of an inch.

Vacuum the floor of your car as well.

Wipe the seats down with a soft brush to remove any lint and give the seats a finished look.
