Instructions

  1. Instructions

    • 1

Collect the coins you wish to use to make your refrigerator magnets. You can choose from domestic currency or foreign coins that can be found on the Internet through eBay or similar sites. Also purchase refrigerator magnets that will accommodate the size of the coins as well as an adhesive (preferably glue) of your choice.

    • 2

Clean the coins by letting them soak in mildly soapy water overnight.

    • 3

Make the coins shiny again by soaking them in a bowl of hot sauce, such as taco sauce, for 3 to 4 minutes. After removing them from the hot sauce, rub them and then dip them into water. You can then dry the coins with a paper towel.

    • 4

Choose the shiniest coins from your collection to make your coin magnets with. Face the side of the coin you want to see face down. You can then take your glue or other adhesive and apply it to the back of the coin. Next, you will slowly press your magnet down onto the coin, making sure it stays centered on the back of the coin.

    • 5

Place all of the finished coins between two sheets of printer paper. This will catch any glue that may leak. You can then place a book or a number of books on top of them and allow to dry for 14 or 15 hours.

    • 6

Stick your new coin magnets on your refrigerator or give them to your friends and family.

Tips & Warnings

  • When placing glue on the back of the coin, use a small drop to keep the glue from seeping out from the sides when the magnet is pressed down onto the back of the coin.

  • You can roughen up the glued edge of the magnet to assist in making the bond with the coin better.

  • If you want to create refrigerator magnets that you can give as gifts, buy foreign coins rather than domestic currency.
