Things You'll Need:
- Dry towel
- Dusting cloth
- Dusting spray
- Lubricating oil
- Penetrating oil
- Steel wool
-
Step 1
Wipe down the bench or seat of the weight training machine with a dry towel after each use. This will remove any sweat that may have accumulated on the padding and will prepare it for the next use.
-
Step 2
Wipe all of the metal components of the weight training machine with a dusting rag at least once every two weeks. Use a metal-safe dusting spray to help remove any dust or dirt buildup on the machine itself.
-
Step 3
Check the moving components of the weight training machine once per month for operating problems and apply a small amount of lubricating oil if necessary. Consult the owner's manual of the weight training machine to see if there are any restrictions as to which oils can be used.
-
Step 4
Look for signs of visible rust every one to two months. Apply a penetrating oil and scrub with steel wool to remove any rust that is found in order to stop the oxidation before it can compromise the integrity of the machine.
-
Step 5
Inspect any cables or bands that are a part of the weight training machine before every use to make sure that they have not become damaged or frayed. Order replacement cables from the manufacturer if necessary so that damaged cable components can be replaced.
